I am not a staff member of the county newspaper, and I can’t remember that I have ever discussed an issue about which I have ever written with any member of the staff either before or after writing the article.

I disagree with you in your interpretation of the Fourth Amendment. This amendment is not referring to public records, and these tax assessment cards are public records and no person can claim any public record as his private papers. But you have your right to express your opinion, the same as I.

Had the ruling to mail the new tax assessments to ali land owners (this was voted on and approved by the Board of Supervisors) been carried out by those whose responsibility it was to do so, each of us would have received his own assessment, and there would have been no suspicion aroused, which caused people to go to the Office of the Board of Assessors in an attempt to find out “what was going on”. As it turned out, the Board of Assessors never received any word of the ruling - so I was told by a supervisor.

Again may I say that I am terribly sorry that I have offended you; maybe you will just have to ; chalk it up to my family rearing.
