The amount of the benefit will be affected by the widow’s age at the time she starts receiving benefits. It can be as low as 50% of the benefit the deceased worker would have received (if the widow’s benefits start when she reaches age 50), or may be as high as 82V4% (if she waits until she is age 62). Mrs. Daly explained that the social security people will go into all the details of individual cases so that qualified persons may make an intelligent choice as to when the benefits should start.

Since these new benefits can start with the seventh month of disability, widows, widowers, and divorced wives who are already disabled should inquire promptly. Immediate benefits may be available.

For further information contact your social security office at 20 S. Cameron St., Winchester, Va. You may telephone them at 667-1511. Hours are 8:45 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
