Participation in Food Program Increases
Atlanta, Ga. -- U. S, Department of Agriculture food programs aided 80,974 needy persons in Virginia during April, 4,111 persons more than the number that received food assistance in March.
USDA’s Consumer and Marketing Service said its family food distribution program aided 48,919 persons in 38 counties and 2 cities. The foods distributed had an estimated retail value of $500,000 and included dairy products, canned and dried fruits and vegetables, canned meat or poultry, grain and cereal products, as well as othei items such as peanut butter and scrambled egg mix.
C&MS said that 32,055 persons in 23 counties and 10 cities took part in its food stamp program and received $243,346 in bonus coupons.
April’s increased participation was generally attributed to the addition of five cities to the food stamp program.
In Rappahannock 455 individuals participate in the Family Food Distribution Program.
Amissville Baptist Bible School in Session
Bible School at Amissville Baptist Church began Monday, June 16 and continues through June 27 with the closing ceremonies scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday, June 29. At that time there will be a commencement and Children’s Day service. This will be followed by a covered dish dinner and church picnic in the church yard. Sunday evening activities at Amissville Baptist Church will be discontinued through July and August. Final evening services for the summer will take place June 22.
Sgt. Garrison Returns To United States
Sgt. Homer Lee Garrison, Jr. of Amissville, who was wounded in action in Vietnam May 31, has returned to the States and is a patient in Valley Forge General Hospital in Phoenixville, Pa. He was visited during the weekend by his mother, Mrs. Martha Garrison and other members of the family. His address is Sgt.
