“Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loveth much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.” (Luke 7:47) Jesus is not saying that the woman was forgiven because she loved much, but that she loved much because she was forgiven. Those who have broken all the laws and have overstepped the bounds of decency often show the greatest love for God once they are converted. “We love him, because he first loved us.” (I John 4:19)
Often those who have walked closer to the ways of righteousness do not realize just how much they have been forgiven. For example, how great is the sin of pride? How great is the sin of selfishness? How great is the sin of ambition that is outside the will of God? “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” (James 2:10)
