Ruritan Barbecue

fi The Amissville Ruritan ^embers are riding the range again. They do this annually in preparation for the Open Pit Barbecue held in July at the Amissville carnival grounds. The Beef Barbecue will be held Saturday, July 5th and is served from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. The beef is accompanied by vegetables, salad, drink, dessert and bread and the price for all you can eat is $2 for adults and $1 for children.
Completing the activities will be rides for children and prizes given away. The public is invited to attend and enjoy the tender beef barbecued over night in a pit and served with or without barbecue sauce.
Bell Ringing To
Mark 4th of July
Rappahannock County bells will ring out the message of liberty on the Fourth of July.
All individuals who have bells, large or small are asked to participate in the National Independence Day observance by ringing their bells for five minutes at 2 p.m. Friday.
Church bells will ring simultaneously in the observance [commemorating the ringing of jthe Liberty Bell 194 years ago to [announce American independence.
In order to revive this early American custom, Congress, in 1963, passed Senate Resolution No. 25 requesting that all American bells public and private, church, school, fire, college and town ring simultaneously at 2 p.m. EDTon July 4. Bells also will ring on radio and TV programs, on public loudspeakers in parks, race tracks, ball parks and on ships at sea.
The bell-ringing ceremony is sponsored locally by the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. The organization also urges all citizens to display the United States of America flag on Independence Day, and other national holidays.
