Letter To Editor

The Honorable Duncan C. Gibb House of Delegates Richmond, Virginia My dear Mr. Gibb:

I am a resident of the Town of Washington, Va. and enrolled as a full-time student of Old Dominion University at Norfolk, Va. I write to you to request your help and support in an issue that is of great concern to me. 9

Last September the State of Virginia charged Old Dominion College with the responsibility of becoming an urban university. Last month it recommended a budget for the 1970-72 biennium to the General Assembly which placed Old Dominion in a financial category lower than that of the state’s two-year community colleges.

If the proposed budget stands, the name ‘university’ will be a mockery at this institution. The story told by statistics is clear: »
