Inactive Files
The Selective Service System is destroying the inactive files of almost twenty-six million overage registrants in a cost-saving and effectiveness program designed to avoid what Draft Director Curtis W. Tarr has called the slow strangling of Selective Service on bureaucratic papers and records. Tarr, now in Vietnam meeting with draftees, has said that the chances of the records ever being needed for mobilization purposes are so slight that the expense, space and staff necessary to maintain them cannot be justified.
