Richmond, Va. . . . Federal latching funds in the amount of 4,500 have been awarded the lulpeper County Rescue Squad ar the purchase of a special ehicle designed to carry mergency equipment, John T. [anna, Director of the Virginia iighway Safety Division, nnounced today. Hanna said that the squad jsponds to such emergencies as raffle crashes, fires, sudden lnesses and the like. It covers all f Culpeper County and portions f Orange, Madison and Lappahannock Counties. The new vehicle, which will be quipped with a two-way radio ookup and other necessary quipment, will give the Squad tie potential to respond to an mergency and still have standby quipment ready. Under the U. S. Highway afety Act of 1966, states and tieir political subdivisions are ligible to receive federal funds n a 50-50 matching basis for cceptable projects in the various ields of highway safety romotion. In Virginia, projects re submitted to the Governor tirough the Highway Safety Nvision and then forwarded to lie National Highway Safety lureau for final approval. After pproval, funds must be xpended by the locality before eimbursement can be made. During the past fiscal year, the tate and various of its political ubdivisions received a total of 1,492,378 in such funds.
