The pinata is a colorful and whimsical creation of crepe and tissue papers made into hollow forms to resemble birds, animals, (lowers — any shape that comes to mind. The pinata is filled with candy and toys and suspended on a rope. Blindfolded children get three whacks each at trying to break the pinata with a stick to make the concealed treasures come tumbling out.
For the Spanish descendants who came to the Southwest by way of Mexico, the Christmas season begins with the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12th and continues through La Navidad, Christmas Day.
