Milked Shipped
Washington -- Dual inspection >f Virginia milk shipped into the District of Columbia will end lune 30, 1971, by terms of a bill expected to receive final Congressional action before the session ends, according to Rep. John O. Marsh, Jr. The measure, including provisions of a bill introduced by Marsh, was tacked onto the District of Columbia revenue authorization and passed by the House on Monday. Because the revenue bill for the Nation’s Capital is considered an essential item, the Senate is likely to clear it, and there has been no significant opposition to the milk-inspection provisions which already have been approVed once by the Senate, Marsh said.
Virginia dairy farmers have complained about difficulties in attempting to comply with varying requirements of Virginia and District inspectors, and
[existing law does no^permit the District of Columbia Health Department to honor Virginia inspections, Marsh explained.
The pending measure would permit the District to admit milk passing Virginia inspection, provided the inspection procedures met federal standards -- a requirement with which the Virginia authorities are prepared to comply -- Marsh said.
