Huff, Virginia * Tech extension leader in 4-H: Crediting volunteer leaders for their influehce on 4-H participants, Huff noted, “Leaders provide project leadership and subject matter resources for club members. “A club leader helps to design i projects according to the \ interests, abilities and resources of individual club members. In i that respect, the projects are a i form of individualized learning,” i Huff went on. i
Discussing the interest in ' livestock, Huff said, “Domestic < farm animal projects have always jbeen standard 4-H material and i are still relevant to meeting the needs of young people to learn about life and nature. They still develop acceptance of responsibilities, pride of ownership and teach the youthful entrepreneur about food and , fiber production, marketing and utilization.”
Admitting that some livestock projects can never be carried on by city residents, Huff told of several beef cattle, dairy cattle, horse and pony, sheep and goat and poultry projects being conducted by innovative club leaders. They have devised ways to keep the members interested without ownership of actual animals.
