The refiguring of benefit amounts is being scheduled so as to avoid delay in the regular delivery of the April 3 and May 3 checks,” she said. “Those checks will be for the amounts payable to beneficiaries before enactment of the 10 percent increase. By the first of May, the new records will have been produced by the computers on magnetic tapes showing the new monthly amount for each beneficiary and the amount of his retroactive increase. The Treasury Department will need the month of May to print the checks and turn them over to the Post Office Department for delivery to social security beneficiaries on June 3.”

Mrs. Crumpton reemphasized that no contact with the local office is necessary. The increases will be automatic and should be received according to the above time schedule.
