Six Countie* Excluded From Turkey Season
Virginia’s 1971 spring gobbler season will open April 17 and extend through May 8 in all but six counties, reports Game Division Field Coordinator, C. H. Shaffer. The counties where hunting will be prohibited are Lee, Wise, Dickenson, Buchanan, Scott, and Russell plus the Clinch Mountain and Hidden Valley Wildlife Management Areas. The season will be open on public and private lands in the remaining counties. Hunting is permitted from onehalf hour before sunrise until 11 a.m. each day, prevailing time. Hunting is to be by calling only with dogs and organized drives prohibited. Hunters with unused turkey tags may bag one gobbler per day until attaining their bag limit of two birds during the license year. “Everything points to an excellent season,” Shaffer, said, “and a few birds have already been heard gobbling this spring.”
Ruritans Hear Reynolds
Paul C. Reynolds of the Carpenter Seed Cleaning plant at Mitchells was the guest speaker for the last meeting of the Amissville Ruritan Club. Mr. Reynolds talked on the southern corn leaf blight which is infesting much of the country and discussed seeds for planting.
