This past Saturday, March 20, the Sperryville Boy Scouts again picked up trash on the stream banks and roadways along the North Fork Thornton River and Piney Branch, in what has become a yearly scout project. It has been annually sponsored by the Rappahannock County Jaycees. As in past years the cleanup is done in conjunction with the up-coming trout season. In an effort to take this project a step farther this year, the Jaycees are providing trash baa-els , fpr. <wse_pf fishermen and travelers of these roadways. Hopefully the presence of these containers will encourage even the worst of litter bugs to keep clean what these scouts have worked so hard to clean up.
For the fourth straight year Roy Atkins of the Department of Highways spent the day loading and hauling the trash gathered.
Boys taking part this year were: Bill Kilby, Bill Stokes, Bob Titchenell, Frank Coffey, Rickey Wayland, Allen Smoot, James Porter, Greg Wayland, Steve Jenkins, Jerry Grigsby, Tommy Wharton and Greg Wharton. Also included were Scoutmaster Dick Wayland and Jaycee George Wharton and Game Warden Irvin Kenyon.
