A progress report on the case against the Potomac Edison Company’s proposed 138 KV power line through Rappahannock County being made by the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection will be given by John Dwyer, Joint Legal Counsel for the League, at the first annual meeting of its membership which will be held Friday, Sept. 10 at 8 p.m. at the County Courthouse at Washington, Va.
How the Rappahannock River, which forms the Eastern boundary of Rappahannock County will be affected by the Salem Church Dam proposal will be among other topics to be discussed at the meeting. Robert Dennis, Executive Director of the Central Atlantic Environment Service, will talk about the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers plan for a high dam at Salem Church on the Rappahannock and its relation to the ecology and use of the surrounding area.
Another speaker prominent in the conservation movement, Hiram Zigler, Natural Resources Coordinator of the American Farm Bureau Federation, will discuss land use policy and how it relates to our agricultural resources and our tax structure. Arthur Wright of the Wilderness Society will speak on the Shenandoah National Park Wilderness Proposals by Sen. Byrd and Rep. Robinson.
