Rain Causes SkidCollision

Friday

Two vehicles collided last Friday during the morning deluge, of rain when one skidded on the wet pavement and struck the other.

Mrs. Mary Edna Schaefer of Sperryville operating a 69 Ford, skidded on wet pavement, spun around and backed into a vehicle which she had been meeting. The operator of the other car, a 71 Buick, was Fred Lee Payne of Culpeper.

The wreck occurred on Route 211 about 10:40 a.m. just east of Sperryville. No injuries resulted and damage to the Ford was estimated at $100 and at $300 to the Buick. „

Last Wednesday, August 25 at 12:45 on Route 211 two miles north of Sperryville, at the Covington River, a 68 Dodge station wagon crashed. The vehicle, operated by Donald Joseph Fugel of Arlington, received damage in the amount of a thousand dollars.

Fugel failed to negotiate a left curve, ran off the right of the road, back across both lanes and struck the cement bridge, scoured the length of it, careened back across both lanes again and turned over.

He was cited for reckless driving.
