And Field Trials
The sixth annual Field Trial and Bench Show of the Northern Virginia Fox Hunters Association is scheduled for September 8-11. The bench show will be held at Culpeper Enterprises and registration for both events will take place there. In command of the bench show will be A. Lawson Blankenship of Murphy, Va., a nationally known breeder of champions. Both bench and field championships of the NVFHA are recognized by “The Chase,” official publication of the National Foxhunters Association.
Entries of field hounds will begin at 9 a.m. August 8 while entries for the bench show will start at 7 p.m. The show will get underway promptly at 7:30 p.m. commencing with derby males. Reports indicate there is an unusually good lot of young show hounds this year r Gerald Simmons ol Clarkesville, who has mastered such famed trials as the U. S. Open, the National, the Mid-South Open, etc., will be master of hounds and will be assisted by 20 qualified field judges for each of the three hunts which span five hours. Hounds will be cast at daybreak on the 9,10 and 11 and places of the casts will be announced at the bench show Wednesday evening. Scores and scratches will be posted each day with the final awards made not earlier than 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 11. On behalf of fox hunters participating and especially those of the local and surrounding area who form the backbone of the NVFHA, deep appreciation is extended the landowners for their cooperation, said W. H. Lyne, the association president. The public is cordially invited to observe and join the fun. There is no admission charge and membership is open to all lovers of the chase. Adult membership fee is $2 and for juniors up to 16 it is $1.
