The special archery season for deer, bear, and squirrel opens this Friday, October 15. The same bag limits apply during this season as during the regular season except that deer taken by bow and arrow may be of either sex. When hunting deer and bear, hunters must use arrows with broadheads at least T/g of an inch wide, and bows capable of casting the arrows in use 125 yards. Firearms may not be carried while hunting during this special season.
The early squirrel season in Rappahannock and adjoining counties closes today, October 14. Rappahannock will reopen to squirrel hunters November 15.
Dove hunters have from now until October 30, 1971 to hunt. The late part of this split season will be from December 22, 1971 through January 3, 1972. Sunset and quitting time this Saturday, October 15 will be 6:35 p.m.
The Virginia Fox Hunters Association is holding its 49th annual field trials this week. The bench show was held Wednesday night and the first day’s running started this morning. Hounds will again be cast at daybreak Friday and Saturday, October 15 and 16th.
