Washington, owned by Willis Snell, is a charming example of a late Federal “Town House’’ and has interesting features. The original log cabin was built in 1750. It is now the center of the house with the lower room being used as a bar.
On Route 211, about four miles west of Amissville, is Duchesse Farm, a comfortable remodeled farm house owned by the David Fannon family. The remodeling of this old house has been the work of many generations over the last century. The numerous rooms with odd angles give Mrs. Fannon plenty of places to display her collection of corner cupboards.
Also on Route 211, three miles west of Washington, Va. Blue Rock Farm will be open for visitors. The owners, Mr. and Mrs. Ian Pryde and Mrs. Pryde’s sister, Mrs. Mary Van Brederode have added to the old farm house in all directions to transform it into a house for easy living for two families. The result was accomplished with ample space and almost spartan simplicity.
Tea will be served at Blue Rock Farm on both afternoons of the Tour.
Saturday, October 16, a Turkey Dinner will be served at the Flint Hill Fire Hall from 5 to 7 p.m. by the ladies of Flint Hill United Methodist Church for the benefit of the church. This is an annual affair and deserves its excellent reputation.
