“FOR THE WANT of a nail the shoe was lost.” There was no dearth of Nails, there were two of them along, but for the “want” of a sandal-strap I almost missed the beauvista from Mary’s Rock. With some borrowed string, a lot of hobbling and perseverance, we finally reached the top. The view was grand. It is a humbling experience to stand on such an eminence.
One is never too old to learn. Even at my advanced age I have acquired a little more knowledge: id est, never wear sandals on a hiking trip in rocky terrain, or mountain climbing.
Yesterday, Sunday, was a good day. I heard that a friend of mine is back in the groove. More power to you, Bill, and may God bless. My new step-step grandsons and I had a nice day together; church and SS, brunch, hike, dinner, Sunday papers and an evening of retrospection. Yes, a good day.
Yesterday’s lesson was about Paul spending so much time in the cities T>f his day. After his confrontation with Jesus on the Damascus Road, I wonder if he might have had a dialogue similar to this with his Lord. ^
“I said ‘Let me work in the country.’
He said, ‘No, go work in the town.’
I said, ‘But Lord, there are no flowers
there.’
He said, ‘No, no flowers, but a crown.’ ”
I wonder what this term “wearing a crown” ^ might mean. I think that with Paul it was the ability to love people of all races. When it was time for his earthly ministry to come to an end, he said in effect, “I don’t know what I had rather do, go on and be with my Lord, or stay on here with you people whom I love so much.” And if that ain’t lovin’, please tell me what loving really is. □
