HOW MANY DAYS a week Rappahannock County’s zoning office will be open — one or two — was left hanging in midair at last Thursday’s meeting of the Board of Supervisors.
Chairman Newbill Miller reported that Col. E. A. McNear, zoning administrator, had returned his paycheck because of what he felt was a misunderstanding.
Miller said Col. McNear said he had requested a salary of $300 a month for keeping his office two days.
“I thought we’d authorized $200, plus a five and a half per cent cost of living increase,” said Miller. “He says if S300 wasn’t authorized, he’ll go back to one-day a week.” Presumably, at the old salary of $100, plus a cost-of-living increase.
Supervisor J. R. Latham recalled that the motion approving this year’s budget, and including McNear’s request, had been to, in effect, double the salary for doubling the time the office was open.
At Miller’s suggestion, the Board “reaffirmed” this intention, and left
