The 572 Virginia traffic deaths so far reported for the first six months of 1972 mark an increase of 22 when compared with the same period of 1971, reports Colonel H.W. Burgess, Superintendent of State Police.
Noting that traffic volumes rose some 8.3 percent during the period, Col. Burgess said the 1972 statistic is subject to slight upward revision due to deaths of persons now carried as injured and late reports.
He said good reductions made in January and February were more than wiped out by an all-time March high of 113. Both April and June saw increases while May’s deaths were the same as the preceding May.
Monthly tolls for the first half of 1971 were January, 92; February, 87; March, 83; April, 95; May, 106 and June 87. For 1972, they were January, 85; February, 73; March 113; April, 102; May, 106, and June 93.
