A MODEL national electrical code has been adopted by Rappahannock County’s Board of Supervisors, on a 60-day, “emergency” basis.
The action was taken at last Thursday’s August meeting after J. E. DeHaven of Winchester, representing the Underwriters Inspection Service, appeared before the board to explain the services offered by his firm.
It was also explained that some county action was required because of action taken 60 days ago by the Virginia Corporation Commission. Up until that time, the electric companies themselves had had underwriters’ inspections done of new installations. Now, the Commission has ruled, such work must be directed by the counties, not by the companies.
DeHaven said the cost of an inspection for an average house would run around $30, and that this cost would be borne by the builder. The service will not cost the county anything.
