RAPPAHANNOCK County's Supervisors are going to try again something which they were unable to accomplish a year ago—put the county’s Dog Fund on a break-even basis.
Claims for livestock slain by dogs are paid from a fund created by dog license fees, but the claims in Rappahannock are running six month ahead of the fund. In other words, only enough funds were collected by the existing fee schedule for dog licenses ta pay claims, and the dog warden’ s salary and expenses, up through July.
A sort of official lOU has been issued-. to all claimants since the fund was exhausted. Furthermore, Dog Warden Jack Bruce hasn’t been paid since last March. His salary is $200 a month.
A PROPOSAL to increase dog license fees was approved for a December hearing, when the Supervisors met November 1. The hearing will be held on a proposal to : raise dog license fees to $3 for male dogs, $3 for “unsexed”
