SOME possible directions pending highway work might take in the Sperryville area were bounced off his fellow Supervisors at last week’s meeting of the Board by Supervisor E. P. (Pete) Luke.
Luke recalled that at the previous month’s meeting a Highway Department official had noted that a constricting factor in their plans was the refusal of the National Park System to allow four-laning. of Route 211 through the Shenandoah Park.
Because of this, Luke suggested that the road through Sperryville not be four-laned, but that the four-laning be stopped at North Fork, and the road through town merely “improved”—widened a bit and a curve here and there straightened out.
Luke reasoned that if the road is four-laned up to the park and then stopped, a “bottleneck” would be created.
ON THE other hand, if Sperryville is by-passed town businesses will suffer. “Those businesses have a lot of economic value to the county. We’d lose tax' revenue if they had to close.”
