The decision to hold a hearing on raising the fees was reached after a hour of discussion. Last year, the discussions went on even longer, and then the Supervisors declined to raise the fees after several Supervisors confessed that they had received an avalanche of telephone calls and personal objection. A gallery of silent but, nevertheless, eloquent dog owners, appeared at the hearing a year ago to demonstrate their objections to raising the dog fees, and they left with nary a word—but smiles of satisfaction—when the fees were kept as they were, even though a six-month deficit on dog claims and dog warden expenses also prevailed at that time.
