Luke suggested raising the dog tag fees to $2 for males, $2 for unsexecf females, $4 for females, and $6 and $11 for German Shepherds.

“If people dearly love dogs, I don’t see how they can object,” said Luke. “If Alpo goes up 15 cents a can, they’ll still buy it.”

Supervisor J. R. Latham worried that Luke’s suggested raises wouldn’t be enough to get the Dog Fund out of the red, and meet upcoming expenses. So did George Davis. Supervisor Herbert Foster wasn’t sure; he thought the dog claims might be running under that of a few months ago.

‘‘Maybe that’s . because the Dog Warden is picking up more strays,” suggested Latham.
