of age. In 1955, the year polio vaccine was intro- ° duced, there were 30,000 reported cases of the disease in the U.S. With widespread use of the vaccine, that number dropped below 1,000 in 1961.

Last year, only 17 cases of polio were reported in this country. Virginia recorded only one case.

A combination vaccine is given for diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (DPT). The initial dose is given at two months, followed by additional doses at foursix and 15-18 months, with a booster at four- six years.
