Dr. Shanholtz said many parents wait until their children are approaching school age to get their immunizations. As a result many children four years of age and under are susceptible to the diseases. If an epidemic were to start, it could spread quickly through this age group, with possible devastating results to its young victims.
ACCORDING to the State Health Department’s Bureau of Epidemiology, the first dose for polio should be given orally at two months of age, the second at four months and a third at 15 months. Some auth-' orities recommend an additional dose at six months.
