Foster picked him up on the mathematics involved. ‘‘We had$500 in claims last year, and your salary went to $3,100 and something. It’s not my job to go around and find out how many dogs there are in the county, but it is the dog warden’s. I’m willing to pay for my couple of little dogs.”
‘‘People holler the same thing, but when you go to bed and sleep at night you don’t know where your dogs are,” said Bruce. He also claimed that under a predecessor, dog claims in the county ran to only about “one-fifth” of what they are now. Besides, “he got $55 a month; I get $200, but the cost of dogs is the same.”
Concluded Bruce: “Let’s face, it. A~“dog*Ts nothing but a luxury. We’ve got to admit that.”
“If you’ll go check, we’ll get some more revenue,” insisted Supervisor Herbert Foster. “I can’t see paying that much money for $500 worth of damages.”
