A PUBLIC meeting to complete the site plan for the Rappahannock Recreation Center will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, in the Elementary School auditorium.
The detailed design has been prepared by Recreation Planner Phil Hester of the State Office of Recreation in Richmond, after consultation with members of the local Recreation Center Association. Hester used scale cutouts representing various facilities and activities, such as a basketball court, volleyball court, tennis court, horseshoe pits, pavillion, picnic tables, barbecue pits, tetherball, archery, storage room, and rest rooms, and fitted them onto a scale map of the six acre site donated by Colonel Hughes along Route 211, leaving room for open park areas, trails find woods.
Hester will be present Tuesday to explain the site plan and to invite suggestions for improvement from county residents. Hester is no stranger to Rappahannock county; this will be his fourth official visit here in connection with planning for the Recreation Center, and he says he and his wife hope one day to buy property here in the county.
