RAPPAHANNOCK League for Environmental Protection focused on history, as well as the environment, at the organization’s quarterly meeting last Friday night. Mrs. Dorothy Davis and Howard W. Holschuh offered a preview of the “magic lantern” show that’s being prepared by the Rappahannock Bicentennial Commission. Mrs. Rae Ely of Green Springs presented a slide show of the Green Springs Historic District in Louisa County. Mrs. Ely talked about how the people of Green Springs joined together to prevent the state of Virginia from building a prison complex on a large tract of land inside the historic area.
Howdy Holschuh has taken slides of historic houses, buildings and places in Rappahannock County. Mrs. Davis narrated, as Holschuh presented the slides to members and guests of RLEP. Once the slide show has been edited and is ready for presentation to groups as part of the county’s Bicentennial program, it will be called a “magic lantern show,” Mrs. Davis said. “Magic lantern” shows were a common form of entertainment in colonial days, she said.
