course, public swimming pool, or any public facilities for baseball, basketball, football or related team sports other than at the centralized schools. There are also no public lakes or. ponds, or local parks. Shenandoah National Park, which is largely forested, does not lend itself to group games or recreational gatherings.

A group of concerned citizens has been working for more than a year to help improve the situation for both our young and our old people, by creating a recreation center. Colonel Hughes has donated six acres of prime land for the purpose, and the state of Virginia has shown its faith in our efforts by awarding a grant of $15,000 and providing the services of the state Office of Recreation to get things started.

Local students responded to a survey last Spring and indicated what they wanted most in a Rec Center. Now, the general public is invited to make final comments J and suggestions'before the Center site plan is “locked in concrete.” We urge everyone to attend the meeting next Tuesday night at 7:30 in the Elementary School.
