ADVANCES in the water rates for the Town of Washington were approved at the council meeting held Tuesday evening. This was a continuation and conclusion of the regular meeting interrupted last week by a special program elsewhere in the county.
The minimum water rate will remain at $3 but gallonage was reduced to 2,000 gallons instead of the previous three thousand. Between two and five thousand gallons, the rate will be 15 cents per hundred and over five thousand gallons the rate will be 20 cents per hundred.
The rate increase was necessary, according to Mayor Peter Kramer, because future repair and maintenance will be greater on the water system, ajhich is\^ging. The system had befin in receivership and $4,500 back interest has to be paid to secure the releas4;of bonds and to secure the releas^ of the corporation from receivership. This depletes the excess funds.
Cornelious Fincham resigned from the monthly trash collection route and a replacement is being sought by the council. Mayor Kramer is pursuing possible dumpster sites and is attempting to negotiate with private property owners for suitable collection areas.
