Jacobsen went on to add, ‘‘In a review of the Virginia Code, it was found that the state prohibited land given to the Federal government to be returned or traded for like land of equal value. ’ ’
THE PURPOSE of the Aldhizer bill would be to permit the Shenandoah National Park to exchange some of the unmanageable parcels it now owns for other parcels of equal value in order to provide for better park management and more regular boundaries.
Senator Aldhizer noted that‘‘the Shenandoah National Park is one of, if not the best managed and most widely used national park in the park system. It is a major contributor to the tourist industry so vital to the communities surrounding the park. I am extremely pleased to be able to offer this legislation to assist the park service in this way, and am very happy that both the Senate and House of Delegates agree with our purpose.”□
