THE preliminary indications are that travel by Virginia registered passenger cars dropped two per cent, while out-of-state passenger car travel was down approximately eight per cent. Travel by commercial vehicles increased slightly, with the volume for trailer-trucks up .3 of one per cent and single-unit trucks and buses up about 3.5 per cent, according to the preliminary estimates.
The largest reductions occurred on weekends, when traffic was down about four per cent on Saturdays and nine per cent on Sundays. Weekdays, there was an average decrease of 1.4 per cent, Mills said.
PRELIMINARY statistics were based on counts at 700 points along Virginia’s interstate, arterial and regular primary highways.
