STATE Senator George S. Aldhizer, II (D-Rockingham) has announced that by this week the General Assembly will give approval to legislation which he introduced to aid the Shenandoah National Park in revising its boundaries.
“This legislation will provide for more orderly and contiguous boundaries, and make for more manageable park land use,” the Senator said. The bill by Senator Aldhizer, Senate Bill 801, was also introduced as companion legislation in the House of Delegates by Raymond R. Guest, Jr., of Front Royal.
According to Robert R. Jacobsen, Superintendent of the Shenandoah National Park, “When the park was first conceived, it was to have encompassed over 500,000 acres. In 1928, the Commonwealth of Virginia appropriated money and received donations of land and money to acquire approximately 160,000 acres.
