TOTAL farms in Virginia declined from 74,000 in 1973, to 73,000 in 1974, according to Jack York of the Loudoun-Fairfax County ASCS Office.

Nationally, the number of farms declined by approximately .5 percent from 1973 to 1974, said York. This compares with declines of .9 percent in 1973 and 1.2 percent in 1972 and shows a slowing in the rate of decline.
