From Page 1 teachers’ salaries. With that increase, the minimum salary would be $8,000 and the top salary would be $11,300 for teachers with more than 13 year’s experience. The projected increase does not equal the cost of living increase during the past year, Norton said. Total instructional salaries represent $641,300 of the proposed budget.

Norton reminded the Supervisors that “the separation of the Rappahannock and Warren county school systems is a new experience.’’ This change will mean that Rappahannock will have to employ its own superintendent and an administrative assistant. The employment of clerical, bookkeeping, payroll and records personnel will be necessary and some increases in office operations is also anticipated. The school board is now seeking suitable office space to rent, he added.

The separation of the two school systems will also require additional capital outlay, Norton said.
