A sudden storm Tuesday made a path through the county pelting the area in a quarter-mile strip with hail, rain and wind. The torrential storm piled up hail as deep as six inches along the roadside on Route 211 east of Washington. Highway maintenance supervisor Douglas Bywaters and an employe scooped the hailstones up by the handsful. As the hail fell the wind and rain created the heaps which can be seen extending along the road.
