LIEUTENANT Robertson, who headed Huff’s patrol, was in Moscow last Friday night withAverell Harriman and other Americans for a festivity similar to that sponsored by the Russian Embassy in Washington. But Paul Staub of the Bronx, N.Y. and John McDonnell of Peabody, Mass., the other two men in Huff’s patrol, were at the Russian Embassy in Washington. Members of the Pentagon staff and diplomats stationed in Washington from those countries involved in the fight against Germany were also present at the reception.
Huff received the invitation to the reception at the Embassy several weeks ago. ‘‘The Ambassador of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and Mrs. Dobrynin request the honor of the presence of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Huff on the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the Defeat of Hitlerite fascism...” it read.
After Huff had received the invitation, a Russian journalist came to Flint Hill and interviewed him. Later, someone from the Pentagon called. Then Huff received several paperbound books and a newsletter from the Russian Embassy. Each of them extolled the importance of ‘‘the Soviet Peoples’ Victory in the Great Patriotic War” against “theMon.strous German War Machine” or described how “the Soviet People defended the honor and independence of their native land and safe
