“Virginians should be proud of their reforestation efforts. It is essential that we plant trees, pine especially, at an ever increasing rate to offset the pine deficit disclosed in the 1966 forest inventory,” said Custard. “We have over 68,000 Virginia wage earners directly dependent on the forest industry which, in turn, is dependent on the raw material supplied by our forests. The citizens of the state and Nation demand the products of the industry. Virginia can and must retain her leadership position because of economics and the many other forest resource related values.”□
