SOUTHEASTERN grain prices continued to slide downward during the week ended May 9, while hogs, broilers and cotton prices extended their upward climb, USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service reports, .
Soybean prices took another tumble downward with losses of mostly 22 to 25 cents a bushel. Corn prices also were down again from a week earlier as the result of an inactive market.
Meanwhile, hog producers received sharply higher prices with an advance of $1 registered at Georgia-Florida-Alabama packing plants. In the past three weeks, packer hog prices have gained over $3 a hundred pounds. Cattle prices jumped higher. Feeder classes were steady to $2 higher with instances of $3 higher. Steer calves in Georgia brought as much as $4 higher prices.
