SOCIAL security officials estimate there may be a million people eligible for supplemental security income checks who haven’t yet applied. The Federal program, which started in January 1974, now makes monthly payments to over 4 1/2 million people with little or no income and limited resources who are 65 or over or blind or disabled. But the Social Security Administration believes there are still a lot of people who don’t know about supplemental security income and might be helped by the payments, according to Philip E.
