The 1975 population is estimated at 23,100, a 40.5 per cent increase. The population of neighboring Stafford County is estimated at 30,800, a 25 per cent increase during the same fiveyear period.
In the Charlottesville area, Greene and Albemarle counties experienced growth of 24.7 and 23.7 per cent, respectively. The 1975 populations are estimated at 6,500 in Greene County and 46,700 in Albemarle County.
OTHER expanding counties include Montgomery, which is estimated to have 58,000 in 1975, up 23 per cent, and Gloucester, 16,900, up 20.2 per cent.
Among the localities experiencing population decreases are Arlington County and the city of Richmond. In Arlington County, the population dropped 12.8 per cent to 152,000 between the 1970 census and the 1975 estimates. In Richmond, it decreased 8.1 per cent to 227,200 during the same five-year period. □
