THE first major contribution to help finance construction of a 4-H education center near Front Royal was made at the Warren County Fair. Carolyn Swiger, chairman of the Warren County 4H Leaders Association, and Laurie Gwin of the Rivermont Senior 4-H Club presented checks totaling $3,550 to H. Robert Edwards of the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center Corporation. Pamela Beverage, Virginia Tech Extension 4-H program leader at Luray, said the complex of buildings to be constructed will cost between $4 and $5 million. The $3,550 will be used for planning funds including architectural fees.
The complex will be constructed on 229 acres which formerly was part of the U. S. Department of Agriculture and Virginia Tech Beef Cattle Research Station. The complex will include camping areas with cabins, conference facilities with an auditorium and staff housing. Construction is expected to begin in late spring or early summer of 1977 and the center will be in use by the summer of 1978.
All the construction money, said Beverage, will come from private contributions of businesses, foundations and 4-H organizations. A
