Orange and Madison counties will sponsor a five-day trail ride from Germanna to Alma in the Shenandoah Valley beginning Friday, October 1 through Tuesday, October 5. The ride commemorates the 1716 expedition of former Virginia Gov. Alexander Spots - wood from the settlement of Germanna to the uncharted western frontier of the Blue Ridge mountains and the Shenandoah Valley, said Arden N. Huff, Virginia Tech Extension horse specialist.
