FIRMS in Warren County may be eligible for special preference in the awarding of government contracts under Defense Manpower Policy No. 4, according to Robert L. Woods, manager of the Front Royal office of the Virginia Employment Commission.
Because Warren County has been certified as an “area of substantial unemployment,” firms doing business in the area which agree to employ disadvantaged workers are eligible for three kinds of preference in the granting of certain Federal contracts. First preference will be given to any firm operating in the area which agrees to employ at least 25 per cent of newly-hired workers each month from “disadvantaged workers.”
Second preference will be given to firms in any area which agree to hire at least 15 per cent of their new hires each month from among disadvantaged workers. Third preference will be given to firms in the area with no requirement to employ disadvantaged workers.
FIRMS not otherwise eligible may qualify for preference by agreeing to subcontract a substantial proportion of a Federal contract to eligible firms.
