Byrd campaign
chairmen named
Herbert S. Barksdale of Flint Hill and Chester W. Fannon of Castleton will head the Byrd campaign in Rappahannock County. Senator Harry F. Byrd Jr. is seeking re-election to the U. S. Senate as an Independent. Barksdale and Fannon join Seventh District coordinators—Robert W. Smalley of Berryville, a Democrat; Dr. Alfred Cramer of Culpeper, a Republican and D. French Slaughter, also of Culpeper, an Independent member of the Virginia House of Delegates.
Byrd said he was gratified that his campaign was attracting leaders and volunteers from all major political persuasions. “It shows that the people of Virginia are Independent-minded. They vote for the man, and the principles for which he stands,” said Byrd. □
