Mildred Saunders Hofer has compiled and had published an 1859 Federal Census of Rappahannock County and the Rappahannock Historical Society has these for sale. Mrs. Randolph Clater and Mrs. W.L. Payne examine a copy of the publication. In it Mrs. Payne found listed many of her forefathers, namely the Andersons, Millers and Lathams.
